Title
“Visiting Britain’s Literary Icons,” a 200-level ENG class, coded at CLC as ENG 225: Survey of British Literature I.
 
Description:
It is a Spring 2026 class that will provide an introduction to British literature from the medieval period to today. Students will practice critical reading, hone analytical skills, and learn how to write research essays that enter into existing scholarly conversations. Course writers include William Shakespeare, Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, Virginia Woolf, and Zadie Smith. The course will culminate with a 12-day study-abroad trip to London, where students will visit the places where our course writers lived and worked and examine items from their archives, attend a Shakespeare production at the famed Globe Theatre, and familiarize ourselves with London.
