In partnership with Salburg College, the Illinois Consortium for International Studies and Programs (ICISP) offers a summer month-long program in the beautiful city of Salzburg, Austria.

Live in the beautiful city of Salzburg, Austria. Salzburg is situated in the northern foothills of the Alps. Famous as the birthplace of Mozart and host to the Salzburg Festival, the city has long been a cultural center for Europe. Your study experience in Austria can become the most memorable time of your life. Salzburg College offers you academic programs tailored to your needs, with small classes and dedicated professors who encourage you to integrate your personal experience into your coursework. Program Description:

Salzburg College is a private college for English-speaking students located in the heart of the city. At the college, students attend classes taught in English by Austrian professors. Classes are small and allow for a close relationship with the instructor.
Academics
    • Students choose from courses that include German (all levels available – no previous language experience is required), European Studies, German Language and Culture, International Communication, Business, Fine Arts, and Music.
    • Students will earn up to 4 transferable credits during each session of the summer semester.
    • This program sessions are three weeks long. The first week is completed on-line prior to arrival; therefore, the actual time in-country is two weeks per session. Students may registrar for more than one session.
    • Salzburg College is known for its Fine Arts Programs; however, the following fees will be assessed for these courses:
      • Private Music Instruction: USD $1,000 (12 lessons @ 60 minutes & final recital)
      • Private Studio Art Instruction: USD $875 (12 lessons @ 60 minutes)
Accommodations
  • Students live in an international student dormitory (2 meals a day, M-F when in session) with a shared kitchen and bath, or in a homestay that includes 2 meals per day and free laundry. Grocery stores, markets, pharmacies, coffee shops & restaurants are all within easy walking or biking distance.
Excursions and Extra-curriculars

Participating in activities and excursions helps students immerse themselves in the people and culture of Austria and the surround areas. These may include various Mozart-related historical sites, Sound of Music filming locations, Schloss Hellbrunn Palace and Trick Fountains, Fortress Hohensalzburg, Old Town, the Salt Mine, a local T.V. Studio, local musical concerts, the Salzkammergut Lake District, the Austrian Alps and the local Biergarten!

Eligibility
  • 18 years or older
  • 2.5 cumulative GPA (on 4.0 scale)
  • Completion of at least 12 college credits by the time of departure
  • Completion of one college writing course (commonly known as English Composition I and/or II, or its equivalent) with a grade of C or better, by the time of departure.
Dates/Fees/Deadlines - How to apply?
  • Students will apply using the ICISP Consortial Application. Upon acceptance, students will also need to apply to Salzburg College. An email with instructions will be sent to accepted students by Salzburg College.

  • Deadline to Apply: March 1

Other Important Info: (VISA, flights, etc)
  • Students can fly directly to Salzburg. Flights must be arranged by the student (Cost: $1200 approx.) Flights and arrival will be discussed during orientation.
  • A valid passport is required, with expiration date at least 6 months past the end of the program. There is a $50 passport registration fee upon arrival.
  • Visas are not required to study in Salzburg for US citizens, however, students planning to stay in the Schengen area for more than 90 days or who will be involved in an internship will need to apply for a visa, which will cost about $246. Salzburg College will assist the student with the application once they arrive. Note that visa requirements vary by country. Non-US citizens should check on visa requirements for the country of their passport.
  • A free public transportation pass is provided to each student and is good for the entire state of Salzburg.

Enroll in the U.S. Dept of State Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) https://secure.login.gov/  to receive important updates about your destination. STEP is a free service to allow U.S. citizens and nationals to register planned travel abroad. Get updates about health, weather, safety, and security for your destination. Plan ahead using information from the local U.S. embassy. Help the embassy or consulate contact you if there’s an emergency like a natural disaster, civil unrest, or a family emergency.
